چکیده

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and optical images contain different types of land cover information. Moreover, whereas like-polarisation SAR images are predominately influenced by surface backscattering properties, the volume backscattering characteristics of surfaces are well represented by SAR cross-polarisation data. Hence, combined use of likeand cross-polarisation data could enhance the land cover mapping process.

Land Cover Classification Using Combinations of L- and C-band Sar and Optical Satellite Images

Whereas C-band SAR data mainly provides information on the upper layer of land covers, properties of the lower surfaces can be captured using L-band SAR because of its higher capability of penetration. Moreover, optical imagery illuminates different characteristics of ground surfaces compared to radar images since they are obtained at different frequencies of the electro-magnetic spectrum. Henc...

Combined Landsat and L-Band SAR Data Improves Land Cover Classification and Change Detection in Dynamic Tropical Landscapes

Robust quantitative estimates of land use and land cover change are necessary to develop policy solutions and interventions aimed towards sustainable land management. Here, we evaluated the combination of Landsat and L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data to estimate land use/cover change in the dynamic tropical landscape of Tanintharyi, southern Myanmar. We classified Landsat and L-band SA...
